Aquatic venues pose risks which can be very serious and life threatening. Patrons can be put in danger for  many reasons and can quickly become distressed in the water and in need of rescue.  

This course will teach participants the requirements for basic water rescues. How to recognise a person in difficulty in the water due to swimming ability, accident, injury or illness, decide whether they need rescuing, make a plan for what type of rescue is required, communicate with others for assistance and perform the rescue.

Training will also cover the requirements for reporting the incident and maintaining confidentially.

SISCAQU002 - Perform basic water rescues

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face At least 3 Hours

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • Physical fitness to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstrations including having competent swimming ability and fitness, throwing a rescue device, handling mock casualties in the water, working as a team and communicating.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

This certificate does not require renewal

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include: 

Scenarios and Performance tasks: 

  • Perform a reach rescue
  • Perform a rope throw rescue
  • Throw a flotation aid rescue
  • Accompanied rescue
  • Wade rescue
  • Non-contact tow rescue
  • Contact tow rescue
  • Contact tow an unconscious casualty

Theory assessment - A written exam consisting of short answer and multiple-choice questions. All questions must be completed.
